Ambiance light van Gogh Almond blossom shows one of Van Gogh’s most beloved paintings. The painting is painted in oil on canvas (73.3 cm x 92.4 cm) in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, February 1890.

Here Van Gogh painted one of his favorite subjects: large flowering branches against a blue sky. Because the almond tree blooms early in the spring, it is a symbol of new life. For the subject, the sharp outlines and the placement of the tree in the image plane, Van Gogh was inspired by Japanese printmaking.

The painting was a gift for his brother Theo and his wife Jo who had a son: Vincent Willem. In the letter in which he communicated the good news, his brother Theo wrote:

“As we have told you, we call him to you and I express the desire that he be as persistent and as brave as you are.”

It is not surprising that it has always been the most precious work for the Van Gogh family. Vincent Willem would later establish the Van Gogh Museum.
